Jana Shikshana Trust(JST) is a not-for-profit, non-political, non religious and secular social work organisation founded by duo trained social workers N. Sheena Shetty and Krishna Moolya, determined to go by the spirit of knowledge that they acquired in “Ratnamanasa” a residential life education centre at Ujire and the School of Social Work Roshni Nilaya Mangalore. In pursuit of service, JST has planted hopes and grown happiness in the life of thousands of marginalised people.
JST carries out development work based on the philosophy that, there can be no other development except the development of the people. The bases of this development are a) Mass mobilisation of people and their involvement in the struggle against social inequality and injustices. b) Developing grass root power base that is village units and federating at higher levels for collective power. C) External assistance by change agents working as catalysts.
“All the wealth of the world cannot help one little village if the people are not taught to help themselves”- as per this assertion of Swamy Vivekanada, JST has been working over the last 30 years for initiating and facilitating the process that empowers and improves the quality of life of the tribe and all other marginalised people through helping them to help themselves
