“Akshara utsava” : Literacy festival popularly called as Aksharotsava is a unique programme, celebrated annually on 19th December since 1992. Under this programme, once the non literates, mostly the marginalised people who have availed literacy through Total Literacy Campaign, gather at district level, irrespective of caste and religion as members of one family.
In this, a day long programme is organised wherein people from all over the district women in large number take part. Sharing their experiences, interaction with the District level officers and people's representatives and presentation of cultural talents and discussions on various developmental issues such as sanitation, promotion of clean and green villages, go for alternative solar energy systems, water literacy, gender equality etc.
Simple refreshment and meals are prepared collectively at the venue of the programme and all dine together. In fact this programme helps to develop unity, feeling of oneness and brotherhood among all participants.
